Jacob Dieter

1862-1864

Jacob Dieter is photographed in his Civil War uniform. He enlisted in 1862 and served in Company F of the Ninth Minnesota regiment. His family accompanied him to Fort Ridgely. He died in Salisbury Prison in 1864 at the age of 38.

Reading and researching the Biographies of Veterans of Company B is a great starting point to understanding the people of the Civil War, where they came from and the battles that they were engaged in throughout the War. Students could research these men and plot maps as to where they lived and fought.

Reading the letters of the people fighting and the families affected by the Civil War would be a great research project, highlighting first-hand accounts.
