Guide Description |
This guide can be used to show students examples of natural disasters that have occurred in Minnesota and nearby states. Photos from tornadoes, cyclones, floods, and forest fires occurring throughout Minnesota's history are available. Links lead to more photos from the disasters. Teachers may choose to use all or part of the guide. |

Not all the photos concerning natural disasters were highlighted in this guide. Some photos were not as easy to see the damage or a similar photo with better detail was used. One photo had an impaled horse in the foreground. One photo describes the death of the occupant. One photo shows a mass burial site. These photos should be selected with discretion by the teacher. CCC stands for Civilian Conservation Corps

11: Ideas for Lesson Plans Using this Guide (optional)

As part of the 5th grade curriculum, students research natural disasters. These photos show natural disasters that have occurred in Minnesota. Other disasters, not considered natural, could be discussed at this time. Viewing photos can lead to discussions about property and livelihood damage as well as damage to animal and human life.
