The Minnesota Digital Library is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, a federal agency that fosters innovation, leadership and a lifetime of learning, and State Library Services, the Minnesota state library agency within in the Minnesota Department of Education, with funding under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA).
Minitex, the administrative home of the MDL, and Minnesota State Colleges and Universities also provide funding support for the MDL.
The Minnesota Digital Library receives funding through the Minnesota Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund, a component of the Minnesota Clean Water, Land and Legacy constitutional amendment, ratified by Minnesota voters in 2008.
